Prior to coming to the sanctuary in 1997, Rachel endured 11 years in isolation as a research laboratory subject enduring horrendous treatments, including being anesthetized 235 times during testing for artificial sweeteners for NutraSweet. Although she will never likely recover from the emotional trauma of this chapter of her life, she is now out of harms-way and gets to hang-around out in the sunshine blowing bubbles!
